We had never heard of the “garbage can race” before Toronto Blue Jays’ outfielder Kevin Pillar posted the challenge on his Instagram and Twitter pages, but it appears he’s starting a trend with Team Adidas athletes in an attempt to one-up each other.
Pillar posted a video of him taking part in the challenge, which looks very similar to the 3-Cone Drill at the CFL and NFL Combine; only it is done with a tennis ball. Pillar goes on to challenge Edmonton Oilers’ star Connor McDavid and Canadian ice dancer Tessa Virtue, who both perform in their sports on skates, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats linebacker Simoni Lawrence to the “garbage can race.”
While Pillar breaks the seven-second mark in the challenge, and can run down a fly ball pretty impressively in the outfield, we’re not counting out the other three athletes he challenged.
Tessa looks ready…
But came JUST short:
Simmy Hov and McDavid... you're up!
