Players and members of the Penguins' staff have also eaten a variety of foods out of the Cup during their time with it.
Monday, though, Phil Kessel trumped his teammates and the Pens' staff while firing back at his haters with one legendary picture with the Stanley Cup. One person in particular that he may be keeping in mind is Toronto Sun columnist Steve Simmons. Simmons wrote a column two years ago, when Kessel was traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs. This was his lede in the story and the below that is Kessel's latest Instagram masterpiece.
"The hot dog vendor who parks daily at Front and John Sts. just lost his most reliable customer. Almost every afternoon at 2:30 p.m., often wearing a toque, Phil Kessel would wander from his neighbourhood condominium to consume his daily snack."
Ladies and gentleman, Phil Kessel, two-time Stanley Cup champion and the undisputed People's Champ.
Last month, Kessel confirmed he wouldn't be bringing the Cup back to Toronto like he did when he won it for the first time, but this picture alone made that decision completely worth it and worth the wait.
