It’s been quite the summer for Nick Bonino after winning his second straight Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
One of the more active players on Twitter, Bonino doesn’t mind mixing in the odd chirp or two, even at the expense of his own teammates.
The 29-year-old centre left Pittsburgh via free agency for their Stanley Cup combatants, the Nashville Predators, on a four-year, $16-million contract. The move produced one of the most epic chirps we’ve ever seen on when a fan accused Bonino of incorrectly using the “Pitt” abbreviation due to Twitter’s character count restrictions.
Like many athletes coming off a championship, Bonino celebrated his day with Lord Stanley in his hometown of Farmington, Connecticut, and visited his high school to once again raise money for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Centre.
Following the event, Bonino returned to his mother’s house for a nice home cooked dinner, something you can bet professional athletes cherish in the offseason, as visiting your family during the hockey season can be a challenge to find time.
Sticking to his Italian heritage, Bonino, opted for his Mom’s spaghetti, and filled the Stanley Cup with the homemade pasta.
No word if his palms were sweaty, knee’s week, or his arm’s were heavy. Let’s just hope Nick didn’t puke anything up on his sweater, because based on the amount of cheese and carbs he consumed, we wouldn’t exactly rule it out.
Eating a meal out of the cup is a popular way to spend your day with the prestigious trophy, but it’ll be extremely difficult to match the bar set by Bonino’s former teammate and linemate, Phil Kessel, who won the internet last week for his epic photos of him with posing with hot dogs inside the cup.
