The playoffs are an opportunity for players and coaches to capture the NHL’s ultimate prize; the Stanley Cup. It also presents them with a chance to get revenge on teams that gave up on them in the past.
During Saturday’s contests, three coaches eliminated their former teams from the playoffs. St. Louis Blues coach Mike Yeo, who served as the Minnesota Wild’s bench boss from 2011-2016 knocked out his old team with a 4-3 overtime win. New York Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault, who began his coaching career in Montreal, eliminated the Habs with a home win, and Edmonton Oilers head coach Todd McLellan, who spent most of his coaching career on the bench in San Jose (2008-2015), led the Oilers to their first series win since 2006.
Some of the players even got in on the action. Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh was originally drafted 12th overall by the Canadiens in 2007, and Blues fourth-liner Kyle Brodziak enjoyed a large part of his career with the Wild (2009-2015).
Revenge sure is sweet, especially in the playoffs.
