Matt Duchene writes heartfelt thank you to Avs, his teammates, the fans, and Colorado

Unless you decided to completely tune out the rest of the sports world on Sunday because of football, you know that Matt Duchene is now an Ottawa Senator.

Late Sunday night, the Avalanche traded the star forward to the Sens in a three-team deal that saw Kyle Turris go to Nashville and a haul of draft picks and prospects go to Colorado.

Trade rumours involving Duchene have been out there for a long time and it seemed like a trade was inevitable, but nobody knew when it was going to happen.

Thankfully for all parties involved, it happened and now the Avs can move forward and Duchene gets a fresh start in Ottawa.

Early Monday morning, Duchene took to Twitter to thank the Avalanche, his former teammates, the fans, and the city of Colorado.

As difficult as these last months have probably been for Duchene, you can tell how much he loved Colorado and playing for his favourite team growing up.

It was just time to move on, though, and we imagine Duchene is extremely excited to play in his home province for the second place team in the Atlantic.
