Toward the end of the NHL’s regular season in late March, Logan Couture took a re-directed Brent Burns slap shot to the mouth and it did all kinds of damage to his teeth and jaw.
He was out for a while and upon his return, he was wearing a cage to protect his mouth. Last night, with the Sharks tied 1-1 in a series with the Oilers, Couture got tired of the cage and decided to get rid of it, swapping it back out for a visor.
Without the cage, we got a much better look some of Burns’ handy work on Couture’s mouth, as he unintentionally gave him a matching smile.
Here’s a side-by-side photo of the two Sharks for comparison:
In the past, it’s been Burns and Joe Thornton that get all of the comparisons because of their beards, but this is another special playoff hockey club that Burns gets to be a part of with his teammates.
This was a long time coming for Couture as far as he was concerned. He knew a lot of those teeth were going to have to come out after taking the shot to the mouth, so removing the cage was a moment of fully accepting that. Hopefully he’s stays clear of any other damage and can heal up soon.
