In terms of player rivalries in hockey, the most fascinating one is Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby's.
While many people dismiss what they have as a rivalry because Crosby has accomplished so much more (Stanley Cup, Gold Medal) than Ovi, in our eyes it's the best rivalry in hockey.
Both players want to be the best and every time they square off, you can tell the matchup means a lot to both competitors.
That being said, the only thing Sid and Ovi's rivalry is missing is bad blood and animosity. The two respect one another to a great degree and unlike other rivalries in sports, the trash talk isn't there.
Ovechkin reinforced that fact when a young hockey player from the Dupont Cannons asked him if he and Crosby were friends.
Who knew Ovi and Crosby were such good friends?
In all seriousness, it's a respect thing between the two. Both are super competitive, but both know how good the other player is.
While Crosby's legacy continues to grow, Ovi still has time to catch up in the Cup department, but it won't be easy, especially this year. With 44 points, Ovechkin's Capitals sit in fourth in the Metropolitan division, but first in the Wild Card standings.
