On Thursday, Leafs players took their medicals ahead of training camp and also spoke to the media.

Mike Babcock was one of the many big names to speak and there was one thing he said that got Leafs fans talking.

The decision is a little surprising considering how good Auston Matthews played last season, but it looks like Babcock and company want to give the soon-to-be 20-year-old another year to continue developing into a leader before giving him (or anyone else) the "C."

As we said before, the announcement got Leafs fans talking on social media and people had mixed opinions about Toronto's decision to go without a captain again.

The way we see it, not having a captain last year worked pretty well, so why put the extra pressure on a guy like Matthews, for instance.

We're not saying he can't handle it because we're sure he can, he's a special player, but another year for him without the "C" could help him develop his leadership ability even more.
