After going back and forth for a week, the trade between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics involving Kyrie Irving and Isaiah Thomas became official on Wednesday night.
Now that the deal is finally done and Irving is officially a member of the Celtics, the four-time All-Star can finally put this summer behind him and focus on the upcoming season with his new squad.
Despite asking the Cavaliers for a trade, Irving has called Cleveland his home for his entire six-year career, so you can bet he had a lot to say and a lot of people to thank once the trade went through. On Thursday afternoon, the newest member of the Celtics shared an Instagram post and thanked all the fans and the city of Cleveland in a lengthy caption.
Irving had more to say outside of his caption and shared an even longer video, which can be viewed by clicking here.
The Cavs thanked Irving for everything last week when the trade was first reported and showed him nothing but love on his way out.
As for his new team, they were pretty quick to welcome him onboard on Wednesday night.
Fans won’t have to wait very long to see these guys play their former team as the Celtics and the Cavaliers will open the season against each other in Cleveland on October 17.
