Lada and Severstal aren’t the most exciting teams to watch in the KHL, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to provide their fans with some highlight reel plays every now and then. The two teams went head-to-head this past weekend in game that was pretty much for bragging rights.
Severstal jumped out to a very early start as they scored less than 90 seconds into the game. They made it 2-0 just over six and a half minutes later and they weren’t done there. With just over a minute to play in the opening period and Severstal shorthanded, Pavel Chernov received a nice breakout pass from Nikolai Stasenko and did the rest on his own.
The first move Chernov made when he flicked the puck over #8 Andrei Ivanov’s stick was a huge as it led to his next move that helped him blow by defenceman Kristaps Sotnieks. Once he got around both of his opponents he made no mistake and sniped home his 11th of the year while shorthanded. Severstal ended up blowing the lead, but still got a 4-3 victory thanks to a late goal.
