When the championship is on the line, you do whatever it takes to get the victory.
On Saturday, SKA Saint Petersburg and Lokomotiv Yaroslavl played Game 2 of their Western Conference finals match. With SKA being one of the top teams in the KHL this season, they were pretty much expecting to roll through every opponent in the postseason.
However, every year there’s a dark horse that makes a deep run in the playoffs and Lokomotiv are this year’s KHL dark horse.
SKA goalie Mikko Koskinen has been one of the biggest reasons for their success this postseason. In 10 games, he owns an 8-1 record with a 93.4 save percentage and a 1.64 goals against average. Early on in Game 2, Koskinen showed exactly how he manages to maintain impressive numbers.
Out of every professional and amateur hockey league there is out there, this save is easily one of the greatest hockey saves to take place this season. His opponent definitely thought he was about to open up the scoring for his team, but instead he was absolutely robbed by the sprawling goalie.
That could have changed the entire outcome of the game if he had scored, but instead Koskinen kept all the momentum on his team’s side and they went on to win 4-1.
