Jonathan Toews is known as “Captain Serious” to many around the NHL, but it’s his captions that have serious game on social media.
Last night, at some point during the Blackhawks game against the Sabres, Toews – as NHL players often do – found a fan to throw a puck to. Kids are always banging on the glass asking for a puck, so every once in a while, they choose to make someone’s day.
Normally, they choose these fans pretty carefully. Either they find someone wearing their jersey, the team’s jersey in an away rink or even just someone making enough noise. What they usually wouldn’t do is give a puck to someone cheering on their bitter rivals. Jonathan Toews made that mistake last night, but may not have noticed until seeing this picture after the game.
It seems like the kid wearing the Kopitar jersey is the one that ended up with the puck. Even if Toews doesn't actually regret giving this kid a puck, he raises a legitimate question: Why is he wearing a Kings jersey to this Blackhawks/Sabres game.
Who knows though, maybe this will get him to convert.
Kids changing allegiances in a moments notice has become somewhat of a trend recently, so maybe this would be the gesture to convince him. It wouldn’t be the first time and it certainly won’t be the last.
Be careful who you give your pucks to, NHL players.
Despite this misstep, it’s clear Toews was in a giving mood last night. Check out this super-fan he met up with last night after the Blackhawks 5-1 win over the Sabres.
