No New York Yankee will wear the number 2 ever again. Well, unless Derek Jeter's nephew Jalen ends up wearing pinstripes. Maybe...
Sunday, the Players Tribune was given special behind-the-scenes access to Jeter's jersey retirement ceremony (which makes sense as the sports website was founded by Jeter). The Players Tribune captured a number of interesting first-hand moments, but the most notable came when Jeter's nephew Jalen asked whether or not he could wear his uncle's number if he ends up playing for the Yankees.
Jeter's initial joke of saying "nope" was quite clearly missed by his adorable nephew, which is probably what prompted the Yankees legend to quickly change his answer to a gentle maybe.
Who knows if we'll actually ever see a Jeter wearing the number 2 for the Yankees again. But what we do know is that the Jeter who wore it yesterday looked positively adorable.
