Jean-François Bérubé was selected in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by Los Angeles and played four seasons with their AHL club, but he never ended up playing a game in a Kings uniform.

The Repentigny, Quebec native was claimed off waivers by the New York Islanders the night before the 2015-16 season got underway and went on to play 21 games in two seasons with the franchise and now he’s getting another fresh start.

The Chicago Blackhawks were in need of a new backup goalie after they traded Scott Darling to the Carolina Hurricanes at the end of last season, so they decided to sign the 26-year-old to a two-year contract. On Saturday, Bérubé unveiled his first mask that he’ll be rocking with his new team and it’s awesome.

Really excited to get this season started. Thanks to @sylabrush for creating another piece of art.

Designed by Sylvie Marsolais of Sylabrush, the same artist responsible for Zach Fucale’s amazing tribute to Maurice The Rocket Richard, the mask features the Chicago Blackhawks logo on the left side of the mask, while the right side of the mask includes a tribute to the Blackhawks’ all-time wins and shutouts leader Tony Esposito.

The top of his mask includes the artwork from the Blackhawks’ shoulder patch, while the area around his chin will feature the Chicago skyline.

The Blackhawks acquired goalie Anton Forsberg in the Artemi Panarin deal, so Bérubé is going to have a little competition for the backup job heading into camp.
