Scott Mayfield split the 2016-17 season between the New York Islanders and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, and heβs hoping to spend the entire 2017-18 season with the NHL club.
The 24-year-old St. Louis, Missouri native has grown a lot since being selected in the second round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Islanders, and so has his hair.
The enforcer decided to start growing his hair out around May 2016, and itβs come quite a long way over the past 16 months.
On Thursday afternoon, Mayfield decided it was time for a change and he did it for a good cause.
Mayfield decided to chop of 10 inches of hair to donate to Wigs 4 Kids, a non-profit organization that provides kids 3-18 with new hair, a new hope, and a chance to be themselves.
After sitting in the chair for nearly 45 minutes, Mayfield looked like an entirely new person at the end of his sitting.
The Islandersβ social media team asked the teamβs enforcer what kind of hairstyle he plans on rocking moving forward, and he decided to have some fun with his answer by poking some fun at his teammates Jason Chimera and Johnny Boychuk.
Itβs pretty awesome that something as simple as a haircut can go such a long way and put a smile on a childβs face.
Way to go, Scott.
