When it comes to playoff hockey, anything can happen.

Players should expect lengthy games that go well beyond regulation time, and really, overtime playoff hockey is the best kind of hockey.

Every shot attempt makes fans hold their breathe as they anxiously watch in anticipation for a hero to emerge.

Sunday night, hockey fans in Berwick, Nova Scotia were treated to one of those incredible playoff overtime games as the Halifax McDonald's and the Valley Wildcats played a five-overtime thriller.

The Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League quarter-final playoff game ended at almost 12:30 am with the McDonald's winning 2-1, but all the talk after the game was about the Wildcats goalie, Cole McLaren.

McLaren, who was drafted by the Halifax Mooseheads in the 8th round of the 2016 draft, made a ridiculous 86 saves in the loss.

The accomplishment is even more impressive when you consider, as per Herald Sports, he made 49 saves the day before in a 1-0 overtime loss.

In the other net, Charlottetown Islanders prospect Dakota Lund-Cornish made 59 saves in the 5OT win.

McLaren, who was called up by the Mooseheads earlier this year, will have to be at his best again on Tuesday night as Halifax leads the series 3-1 and will go for the win.

While it sucks his 86-save outing was all for not, history has shown us that's usually how these things go.

Just over a year ago, a Minnesota high school goalie made 112 saves and her team lost the game.

In December of 2016, Tony Bruns set a boy's high school record in Minnesota with 98 saves in a 12-0 loss.
