Gregg Popovich might be the most universally liked coach in all of sports.
His witty responses in press conferences, ability to produce contender after contender in the NBA and the respect and friendships he builds between him and his players all contribute to man that’s easy to root for. Now, if this rumour is true, he’s added another one to the list.
He’s an excellent tipper.
Reddit user nigsignoodlers posted (and eventually deleted) a photo that appears to show Popovich tipping $5000 on a $815 bill.
A San Antonio news organization got in touch with the restaurant owner, who did confirm that the Spurs’ coach has been to their establishment “in the past multiple times”. While it can’t be confirmed, and probably never will be, it will likely be taken as fact by many and will only add to the lore of Pop.
It’s not uncommon to see players do things like this from time to time, but that doesn’t mean it’s not nice to see people be generous with their money.
Funny enough, it’s not like Pop was on cloud 9 after a big win. The tip was left on April 21 which was actually the day after the Grizzlies won their first game of the series. So win or lose, Pop seems to be a generous man.
