Down in Minnesota, NHL players are hitting up the ice for organized summer league hockey. It’s a mix of NHL, AHL, NCAA and professional players reigning from in and around the state of Minny.
Some notables include Dustin Byfuglien, Ryan McDonagh, Jake Guentzel, Nick Leddy, Jake Gardiner and James van Riemsdyk.
Games are played at 4-on-4 throughout July and August, with the remaining games going every Monday and Wednesday. The pace is quick, which translates to tons of open ice, with odd-man rushes and increased chances for breakaways.
And that’s what happened when newly signed Vegas Golden Knight, Chris Casto, juggled the puck on his stick up in the air five times before firing it on Minnesota Wild ‘tendy Alex Stalock.
Stalock stopped Casto, but it was this save that had the fans of their feet, as he stretched out in full desperation mode to rob his former teammate and current Golden Knight, Erik Haula.
Sabres forward Kyle Okposo, who’s back out on the ice after being forced to cut his season short last year after a scary concussion, found the back of the net after toe-dragging around the defender.
Okposo’s future teammate in Buffalo and 8th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, Casey Mittelstadt, got on the scoresheet with a pair of goals.
Make sure to give these beauties a follow on Twitter. The next game goes on Monday night. Until then, get caught up from some of the top plays and goals that have come out of this awesome fundraising tourney.
