There are unique moments in sports that happen so rarely that every one of them is a special moment – a category in which goalie goals belong.
The Peterborough Petes and Kingston Frontenacs were in game four of their second round match up with Peterborough up 3-0 and up 5-2 in the game ready for a sweep. With their season on the line, Kingston had their goalie pulled down by three and Petes goalie and Oilers prospect Dylan Wells fired the puck from behind his net.
A legitimate goalie goal to ice the game, complete the sweep for the Petes and send them to the OHL Eastern Conference Final for the first time in 11 years.
Wells has had a ridiculous stretch going in the playoffs and this just adds to it.
The Petes’ goaltender has won eight straight games in the playoffs and has a .944 save percentage over that same stretch. Add a goal to that tally and he has to be the leading contender for MVP if the Petes can go all the way.
