Baseball Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski spent his entire 23-year career with the Boston Red Sox and is one of the greatest players in franchise history.

On Tuesday, the Red Sox opened a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants and it was the first appearance at Fenway Park as a big leaguer for Mike Yastrzemski, the grandson of the Red Sox’s all-time leader in doubles, RBI and hits. As the Andover, Massachusetts native made his way to the batter’s box for his first at-bat of the night, he was greeted with a standing ovation from some of the Red Sox faithful.

For the 1st time in 36 years, Yaz steps to the plate at Fenway.

It’s rare to get an ovation from the Red Sox faithful, let alone a standing ovation from them, as a visiting player, but when you’re the grandson of Boston royalty you’re getting a nice, warm welcome.

Unfortunately for Yastrzemski, he struck out swinging in his first at-bat at Fenway Park, but he ended up hitting a home run later on in the night.
