It feels like emergency goalies have been in the spotlight in the NHL a lot more this season compared to previous years, and we're fine with that.
Every emergency goalie has a cool story, and the best emergency goalie moment of the season came when the Hurricanes helped their equipment manager make his NHL debut.
Saturday night, the Flyers were trying to follow suit.
Late in the third period against the Devils, Philly coach Dave Hakstol sent out Flyers Skate Zone employee Eric Semborski to make his NHL debut.
Unfortunately, the referees wouldn't allow it and the Flyers had to send Anthony Stolarz back out to finish the game, much to the displeasure of the Philly faithful.
As upset as we are, the officials were following the rules as a second emergency goalie can't come into the game unless there's an injury.
Stolarz, who was up on emergency recall, was the team's first emergency goalie that had to come into the game because of what happened to Michal Neuvirth.
Thankfully, Neuvirth is fine by all accounts, but it would have been cool to see Semborski get in the game.
Earlier in the season, Semborski had to be the emergency backup for the Blackhawks when they were in town, which explains the custom mask.
