SKA Saint Petersburg and Team Russia went head-to-head in the 2017 Sochi Hockey Open gold medal game on Wednesday night.
Russia trailed 3-1 late in the second period, but that’s when the bounces started to go their way.
With just over three and a half minutes left to go in the second frame Russia found themselves down a man. Looking to kill some time on his team’s penalty, former Boston Bruins draft pick Maxim Chudinov fired a shot down the ice that ended up going right on target and was too much for Mikko Koskinen to handle.
It ended up being a huge goal for Russia, as they went on to add one more in the third period to force overtime and then eventually won the game 4-3 in a shotoout.
You can bet Koskinen is still thinking about that bad bounce today.
