On Tuesday night, the Sabres solidified the future of their franchise by signing Jack Eichel to an 8-year contract extension.
The extension is an 8-year, $80 million deal and it puts Eichel up there with players like Connor McDavid and Patrick Kane in regards to cap hit once the deal kicks in next season.
Although the deal is a massive one, according to Eichel's agent (who spoke to John Warrow of the AP), the 20-year-old actually took less to help the Sabres in the future.
That's a sign of leadership and maturity, and if anyone doubts how dedicated Eichel is to winning with the Sabres, than this act alone should erase those doubts. (H/T: John Warrow)
