As entertaining as the NBA is on the court, what happens away from the hardwood in today’s social media powered world gives basketball fans a whole other side to the league and how its players interact.
The theatrics and drama on Instagram, Twitter and everything in between is sometimes too much to handle, and no other league in the world can attest to the traction it creates when some of the top basketball players on the planet express themselves in 140 characters or less.
On Monday, LeBron James was in the spotlight for this sending out a cryptic Instagram post that featured a clenched fist from the television show Arthur. Many fans connected to the dots back to Kyrie Irving, who happened to comment on the post. Then, to throw more fuel to the fire, Draymond Green’s latest IG upload appeared to be a shot at LeBron when the Warriors star used the same caption of James’ post.
LeBron then cleared the air with a follow up post on Tuesday night with a hashtag of “strive for greatness,” which suggested that James was merely telling the world how he felt at that particular time.
In an effort to explain his Instagram post and ponder why people like to jump to conclusions about players supposedly taking shots at each other, Green fired off a series of tweets explaining that he was just feeling himself, and disrespecting anyone.
What do you think? Do you believe the players when they say there's no underlying messages to their posts? Regardless, it provides for some quality entertainment, and only increases the suspense of when the super teams next collide.
