If the Cleveland Cavaliers go on to win the NBA Championship without a single loss in the playoffs, the blame may rest on the shoulders of Klay Thompson.
Last year, LeBron James and Draymond Green got into a bit of a scuffle with one another in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. After LeBron stepped over Green, the Warriors forward struck LeBron below the belt, leading to a war of words that ended with Green saying some not so nice things.
Following the game, LeBron provided reporters with more detail on the verbal altercation, something that shocked the Warriors players and led to Thompson stating that LeBron's feelings were hurt by Green's comments. At the time of Thompson's comments, the Cavaliers trailed the Warriors 3-1. Since then, the Cavs haven't lost a single playoff game.
Thompson was asked whether or not be believed that his comments are what fueled LeBron to lead the Cavs to their incredible 3-1 series comeback, and according to the star guard, he doesn't believe it did.
"I don't think LeBron really went to sleep, pinned that up and used that for motivation. But if he did, it's all right," Thompson said. "We still had three opportunities to close it out, and we didn't. So, I don't think that was the game-changer." (ESPN/Chris Haynes)
Is it just a coincidence? Yeah, it sure is. But as Raptors fans, it's just another reason to say thanks to the Warriors for seemingly making the NBA Playoffs a two horse race.
