Miles Wood was a big Ovechkin fan as a kid, at least for a little while.
Ten years ago, when Wood was 11 years old, he sent a letter with a hockey card and a self-addressed stamped envelope to Ovi, asking him to sign the card. Well, he wasn’t really asking. In his letter, he included that if Ovechkin did not sign and return the card, he would body check him when they first met in the NHL. The card was never returned, and now Wood could really fulfill his promise.
The odds of making it to the NHL really are like winning the lottery, so it was a long shot, but he called it. Tonight, the two meet for the first time and we’ll get to see if Wood follows through on his threat.
The story was actually revealed by Wood’s father in a Facebook Live interview with the Devils yesterday.
We would not recommend trying to follow through. Ovechkin has approximately 55 lbs on Wood and about two inches. However, hard you hit him, it may hurt you more in the end.
