On Saturday night, the Indianapolis Colts unveiled a statue for legendary quarterback Peyton Manning outside Luca Oil Stadium.
The Colts went all out in making the ceremony a memorable, bringing in former late night show host and Indianapolis’ own David Letterman to speak.
Manning, who’s made numerous guest appearances on Letterman’s show, is friends with iconic host. In true Letterman-like fashion while sporting a terrific white beard, the 70-yeard-old absolutely roasted Peyton’s little brother Eli and the now 0-5 New York Giants during his speech.
“Where the hell is my statue,” asked Letterman. “If you like football trivia, so far Eli and Peyton have won the same number of games.”
On Sunday, the Colts inducted the two-time Super Bowl champion into their Ring of Honour, and saluted their former quarterback with a 26-23 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers. Peyton was obviously on hand and connected with one of his go-to receivers Reggie Wayne after a snap from centre Jeff Saturday for one last time. With his oldteammates on hand, Adam Vinatieri played hero, notching his 27th career game winning field goal, and become the 3rd player in NFL history to reach 2,400 points. He also has 539 career field goals, moving him into second place all-time.
Meanwhile, Eli and the Giants lost more than their fifth game of the season on Sunday. New York’s top three receivers in Odell Beckham, Sterling Shephard and Brandon Marshall all left the game with injuries during the Giants 27-22 loss to the Chargers. No team has ever made the playoffs down 0-5.
Poor Eli.
