As the old saying goes, sometimes you have to be lucky to be good, and good to be lucky, and University of Minnesota Duluth goalie Maddie Rooney knows all about that.
Going into her team's game against No. 1 Wisconsin Sunday, Maddie had a ridiculous 1.60 goals against average and .943 save percentage this season.
The matchup against Wisconsin didn't go as she or her teammates envisioned as they lost 4-1 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Final Face-Off championship, but Maddie was still spectacular in the loss.
Although she gave up four goals, she made 50 saves in the loss, including a lucky and unbelievable no-look behind the back save after the puck went off the crossbar.
You have to be good to be lucky, right?
The fact that Maddie had the presence of mind to just reach back after feeling the puck hit her in the back was incredible.
Although the final score wasn't what Minnesota Duluth was hoping for, they've got a lot more hockey to play as the NCAA Regionals are right around the corner.
