Red Sox fans were thrilled when the team announced they had acquired Chris Sale in the offseason. There was some reason to worry, considering former Toronto Blue Jay David Price went there and struggled. That hasn’t been the case for Sale though, as he is currently the hottest pitcher in baseball.

The perennial Cy-Young candidate joined elite company after recording his seventh consecutive 10+ strikeout performance during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Other pitchers who have accomplished the feat are Hall of Famers Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, and Nolan Ryan.

Sale now leads the MLB with 85 strikeouts, while Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer is behind him with 62. The 28-year-old’s single-season strikeout record is 274, which he set with the Chicago White Sox back in 2015. If he keeps up this pace, he should smoothly surpass that number.
