David Backes and Charlie McAvoy have two things in common; they play for the Boston Bruins and they both took the college route to the NHL. The 33-year-old centre attended Minnesota State University – Mankato, while the rookie defenceman attended Boston University.
This past weekend, the Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks and the Boston University Terriers battled it out in a double header on Friday and Saturday at Agganis Arena in Boston, and the two teammates made a friendly bet for the special occasion.
After Boston University got the season rolling with two wins and a tie, McAvoy was feeling pretty confident in his alma mater heading into the double header at home. However, they ended up letting him down by dropping the first game 6-3 and the second 3-0.
The Bruins recently returned home from a three-game road trip and the 19-year-old defenceman came through on his word and delivered on his bet.
Backes is a dog lover and has quite a few dogs, so this was no simple task for McAvoy. However, he still got the job done and didn’t seem to complain about it.
