Vancouver Canucks fifth overall pick Elias Pettersson is already impressing his new organization and its fans.
The Swede was lights out during the Canucks Summer Showdown prospects game, showcasing his slick hands and displaying what to expect from him in the future. To start things off, the center completed a smooth give-and-go with defenceman Aaron Irving.
Later in the game, he demonstrated incredible patience and waited… and waited… and waited… until finally firing one home past goaltender Michael Dipietro.
At last, he added a cherry on top after undressing netminder Francis Marotte in the shootout.
Pettersson ultimately led Team White to a 5-3 victory (the shootout was only performed to entertain fans).
It’s been a rough couple of years for the Canucks, as they missed the playoffs the last two seasons and recently fired their head coach Willie Desjardins. But things are starting to look up, with prospects Pettersson, Brock Boeser, Jonathan Dahlen, Adam Gaudette and Olli Juolevi all showing promise.
Pettersson could very well be heading back to Sweden, but he appears to be on the right track.
