If you would have told us at the beginning of the season that the Columbus Blue Jackets would win 16 straight games at one point during the season, we probably would have laughed right in your face.
No disrespect to the Jackets or anything, but nobody could have seen this coming, and yet, not even halfway through the season, here we are, one more Columbus win away from history.
Tuesday night, the Blue Jackets beat the Oilers 3-1 to extend their winning streak to 16 games, the second-longest streak in NHL history.
Thursday night, Columbus can tie the 1992-93 Penguins' streak of 17 straight wins, the longest in NHL history, and if they beat the Capitals, they have a chance to make it 18 in a row Saturday against John Tortorella's former team, the Rangers.
Before we get ahead of ourselves, though, we're going to take a trip down memory lane and reveal one thing we've learned about the Jackets over this win streak.
For starters, we learned they are for real, but more importantly, we learned that Nick Foligno and Sergei Bobrovsky have the best post-game win ritual in the NHL right now.
Simply known as 'The Hug,' after every Columbus win, Foligno makes sure he's the last guy to greet Bobrovsky and they embrace in a big bear hug.
The ritual didn't start this season, though. No, this post-game win ritual started at some point during Columbus' 19-5-5 run towards the end of the 2012-13 season which just so happened to be both Foligno and Bobrovsky's first season with the Blue Jackets.
As per BlueJacketsXtra, here's what Foligno had to say about the hug back in 2014:
“I’ve always loved his name,” Foligno said. “I think it’s hilarious. I used to just yell it in the (dressing) room whenever I’d see him. I just love the guy. You want to hug him.
“But, honestly, I don’t know how it started. I didn’t even know it was a ‘thing’ until I started to hear from fans about it when it happened a few games in a row. They got into it, so now I guess it’s a thing.”
Now, after every win, fans look forward to seeing the hug, and when the wins are that much more meaningful like they are now, the hug gets even better.
With P.K. Subban now in Nashville, his post-game win ritual with Carey Price isn't happening anymore, so Foligno and Bobrovsky's gets our nod for the best win ritual in the NHL right now.
Plus, it's also one that we're certain WWE Superstar Bayley would absolutely love.
