The Toronto Blue Jays don’t have a ton of position players that have come up through their system, but that may change soon.
The most notable one on the Major League roster at the moment is probably Kevin Pillar. Now, all of a sudden, they are starting to seem rich in young bats coming up through their system. Yesterday, Bo Bichette, a shortstop drafted in the second round of the 2016 Draft, went 7-8 with a home run, five RBI, two doubles and a stolen base.
Of course, that’s a ridiculous day, but what it did to his numbers on the season is the most notable part.
Of course, that’s an absurb year, but last year he was even better. Now, over 339 plate appearances in the minors, the 19-year-old is slashing a ridiculous .407/.463/.669 with 11 home runs.
Bichette has Blue Jays fans drooling over the possibility of the shortstop becoming a star.
The craziest part about the whole thing for Blue Jays fans is he’s not even the only prospect raking for them in the minors. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is still walking more often than he strikes out and slashing .324/.413/.472 with four home runs. That’s not quite as impressive of Bichette’s line, but not many things are.
Add in Anthony Alford who was playing so well that he was called up to the major leagues straight from Double-A, and the Blue Jays future is looking bright.
