The Toronto Maple Leafs' hockey team has an interesting connection to this year's Hockey East Tournament. Head Coach Mike Babcock's son plays for Merrimack College, while left winger James van Riemsdyk's brother plays for the University of New Hampshire.
The two team's played a best-of-three series against each other in the tournament, so the coach and player placed a friendly wager on it. UNH won the series 2-1, which meant Babcock had to wear a Wildcats hat during his media session on Monday. It doesn't seem like the worst bet to lose, but Babcock's pride was clearly hurt.
This is the second bet Babcock has lost to one of his players in the past few months, losing to Auston Matthews when the USA beat Canada for World Juniors gold.
Babcock better turn things around quickly, or he might start to get a reputation around the Leafs as an easy bet to win.
