For the first time in the NHL's 100-year history an Australian player suited up for a regular season game.
Nathan Walker, who was born in the United Kingdom, but raised in Sydney, Australia from the age of 2, made his NHL debut with the Capitals against the Canadiens. Ahead of the game, the Capitals shared a special video featuring Australian athletes from the world of sports congratulating Walker on his achievement.
On top of the special video message, Capitals fans at the Capital One arena held up 'G'day Nate' signs in the crowd to make the Aussie feel even more welcome. Oh, and a few fans even showed up in an Australian flag morph suit.
