Jerseys and logos are two of the most sacred things to hockey teams, players and fans, so when we see this jersey alteration from a couple Montreal Canadiens fans, we’re curious to see how people feel.
Of course, not long ago, PM Justin Trudeau called out to all Canadians, saying everyone should be rooting for the final Canadian team in the NHL playoffs, the Ottawa Senators. There are surely some people who agree with him and some people who don’t. This is especially targeted at Montreal and Toronto fans, because of their proximity and recent rivalries between the teams.
Some fans from these regions can’t bring themselves to root for the Senators, which is totally fine, because rivalries are a massive part of what make sports fun. To be honest, we’re sure Senators fans would prefer nobody else cheering for them, so they can fully rub in their team’s win if it eventually happens.
With all of that said, this photo has thrown us for a loop. We understand rooting for Canada’s team, but covering up your own favourite team’s logo seems a step too far in the unwritten rules of sports fandom.
What do you think – is this fair or foul?
We can’t help but call foul on this one. If you’re a fan of a rival team, but want to cheer for Canada’s final shot at a cup that badly, go out and buy a jersey – especially if you're switching teams altogether.
