Tuesday night’s episode of Jeopardy! saw long-time host Alex Trebek roast a San Francisco Giants fan with a ruthless chirp about the team no longer being the mighty force that saw them win three World Series in 2010, 2012, 2014.
On a special Tournament of Champions episode, Trebek reached out to each contestant and asked about the reaction and support he’d received for making his way onto the popular gaming show’s highest stage.
Tim Aten, who’s won over $107,499 on the show over a seven-game winning streak, told Trebek that San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence had contacted Aten to congratulate him on his earnings and winnings.
And that’s when Trebek got ruthless with the editor from Ohio.
Look how Trebek just stars right into the camera when he commits the savagery.
The show started running In 1964, but it wasn’t until 1984 when the 77-year-old started hosting the show on a full-time basis. Given that the show is filmed in Los Angeles, it’s not out of the question to assume Trebek has taken a rooting interest in the Los Angeles Dodgers, and developed a distaste for the Bay Area baseball club.
The Giants, by the way, are not World Series champions as confirmed by Trebek. The club is coming off a 64-98 record, their worst season since 1985 where they went 62-100.
Stay golden, Alex.
Aten could have the last laugh for those laughing at his expense. The winner of the Tournament of Champions will walk away with a cool $250,000.
