After starting out his career with CCM and leaving the hockey manufactuer for Bauer, Alexander Ovechkin has returned back to his CCM routes.
The NHL’s leading goal scorer had starting using CCM equipment, including his skates and sticks, since the start of training camp after his contract with Bauer expired in the summer.
CCM boasts one of the most impressive rosters of any equipment company out there with Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, Brent Burns, Carey Price, John Tavares, Patrice Bergeron and Nathan MacKinnon signed on as official athletes.
CCM’s Russian distributor, SPORTCONCEPT, played a big role in locking up the Russian superstar. Ovi will give feedback and insight on developing the latest cutting edge of hockey equipment that will be distributed across the North America and Russia through marketing campaigns. Ovechkin will be at the forefront in growing the brand in his native homeland.
The switch to CCM has paid dividends early in the year, as the 32-year-old became the first player in a century to score back-to-back hat tricks to open up the season. Ovechkin has19 over his career, putting him in a tie for 16th all-time with Gordie Howe, Peter Bondra, Mark Messier and Dino Ciccarelli. The six-time Rocket Richard winner has the 6th highest goals per game at 0.611, but has played in more games than the five players in front of him (Bure, Dye, Lemieux, Denneny and Bossy).
The Ovechkin “P92” stick is known as one of the bigger curves available on the market, as its big open toe can allows players to rifle the puck top shelf, making it easier to get a quick shot off from far out or in tight.
