The Kansas City Royals have suffered some pretty brutal losses over the past two weeks, but they’ve managed to stay alive in the AL Wild Card race.

They bounced back from a 17-0 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night with a 5-4 victory on Sunday afternoon to take two of the three games in the series. They kept the momentum going with a 7-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Monday afternoon, but it didn’t come easy.

After jumping out to an early 5-0 lead by the end of the third inning, the Royals nearly blew their lead a few times throughout the game and would have lost it entirely if it wasn’t for an incredible home run-robbing catch by Alex Gordon in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Gordon managed to rob outfielder Mikie Mahtook of his 11th home run of the season, which would have put three runs on the board for the Tigers and it would have kept the inning going.

The Royals improve to 68-68 on the season with the win and sit three games back of the second Wild Card spot in the American League.
