Isn’t it nice when the whole league can find something to rally around? We’ve dealt with enough bench-clearing brawls and accusations of cheating for the year; maybe it’s time to celebrate something as a baseball community.
Monday night provided us with a reason to celebrate. Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals hit a homerun in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays that seemed relatively meaningless. Down 5-1in the 8th inning, the solo home run tacked on a 2nd run for the Royals squad. Not many people knew that they had actually just witnessed history.

Gordon’s home run actually broke the record for most home runs in a season league-wide. Including Gordon’s homer, MLB hitters had combined for 5,694 dingers on the season. With still a week left to play, the record should be set much higher than the previous mark when it’s all said and done.

Now that’s a record the whole league can celebrate. Well… except maybe the pitchers.
