It's an exciting time to be a hockey fan as the 2017-18 season begins on Wednesday, and on Monday Jaromir Jagr signed with the Calgary Flames.
It would have felt very wrong if the new season began and Jagr remained unsigned, but thanks to the Flames, hockey fans will once again be able to enjoy the ageless wonder.
Speaking of ageless, there are some crazy facts about Jagr signing with the Flames that will make you feel old, but there's also a first, too, that is just as cool.
The Jagr/Tkachuk Connection
19-year-old Matthew Tkachuk is now teammates with 45-year-old Jaromir Jagr, who was actually drafted the same year as his dad Keith.
Furthermore, Keith and Jagr played against each other the day after Matthew was born.
Also, the amount of points Jagr recorded before Matthew was born is pretty insane.
The Old Man in the Room
Right now, Mike Smith is the oldest player on the Flames' roster, and he was born 10 years after Jagr.
Coming Full Circle
In 1989, the Flames embarked on The Friendship Tour ahead of the regular season and faced a bunch of European teams, including one that had Jagr on it.
Coincidence?
The same year the Flames franchise played their first season in the NHL (as the Atlanta Flames), Jaromir was born.
Money, Money, Money
Jagr's base salary with the Flames for this season will be $1 million, and the last time his base salary was under that mark was in 1992-93. That season was just his third in the NHL.
Finally Coming to Canada
Over the course of his career, Jagr has played for eight different NHL teams, but not one of them has been a Canadian team.
That will change this season, however, as Jagr will be playing for a Canadian club for the first time in his career and he'll be playing for a Western Conference team for just the second time in his career (Dallas - 2012/13).
